Andre's Winton Preview

Hi Everyone!

It's hard to believe we're headed into Round Five of the Repco Supercars Championship already. We're coming off the back of a good weekend for R&J Batteries Racing in the West - achieving our first podium both of the 2022 season and my first with BJR. The crew have all put in so much work this year and persistence, as they say, pays off.

In Sunday's race in Perth we adopted a pit strategy to run long and pit for four fresh tyres on lap 29. The rest of the field run a two or three tyre stop, but four tyres was something we had planned from the outset as we knew that race was going to be the hottest one of the weekend and we thought the tyre degradation would be enough to get a yield on the four tyres. I was able to drive accordingly at the start of the race, went long and pitted, and ended up with a podium.

Winton this weekend is going to be something completely different again to Perth. We had the opportunity to undertake a test day there a couple of weeks ago but the on track temperature this weekend is expected to drop even lower - particularly for the early morning practice and qualifying sessions and probably in the latter half of each race on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Strategy is most definitely going to come into play but, while it does look like we're going to enjoy some very crisp early morning temperatures, the skies should remain clear and we won't have to worry about wets which is always a possibility at Winton.

Thanks again for all your support! André
